Overview: studying in Australia
Australia has universities and a strong vocational education sector. International students enrol with registered providers and apply for a student visa. This page gives general guidance only.
Popular study levels and courses
- Vocational education and training (VET)
- Bachelor's degrees
- Master's degrees by coursework or research
- Doctoral programmes
Admission requirements
Each provider sets entry requirements for each course. Applicants generally provide academic transcripts and proof of English ability, and some courses require additional documents.
English language requirements
Providers usually accept IELTS and several other approved tests. Minimum scores are set by each provider and course.
Application and intake information
Many universities start in February or March and in July, and some offer extra intakes. Check each provider for dates and deadlines.
Tuition and living costs
Tuition is set by each provider and differs by course, and living costs differ by city. Use each provider's published fees and official government guidance to plan your budget.
Scholarships and funding
Scholarships come from providers, governments and other organisations. Eligibility and deadlines differ, and we cannot guarantee any award.
Visa and immigration
International students usually apply for a Student visa (subclass 500) after receiving a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a registered provider. Requirements change, so check the Department of Home Affairs website. This page is general guidance, not immigration advice.
